About CREAM

Priority Area

Sustainable Development & Green Construction

As globalisation, population growth, rapid urbanisation and an expending middle class intensify competition for scarce resources, a fundamental mindset shift is taking place. Sustainability – once seen as extremist thinking – is fast become mainstream, with increasing recognition that is good for people and business as well as for the planet.

Mechanisation in Construction / Industrialised Building Systems (IBS)

Industrialised Building System (IBS) is the term coined by the industry and government in Malaysia to represent the adoption of construction industrialisation and the use of prefabrication of components in building construction. IBS is defined as a construction technique in which components are manufactured in a controlled environment (on or off site), transported, positioned and assembled into a structure with minimal additional site work.

Integrated Design Delivery Solution (IDDS) / Building Information Modeling (BIM)

A new approach of Integrated Design and Delivery Solutions (IDDS) aims to radically improve the performance of the construction industries. IDDS builds upon recent trends in the construction industries that has seen the widespread adoption of technologies such as Building Information Modelling (BIM) and innovative processes such as Integrated Project Delivery (IPD). However, these innovations are seen to develop in isolation, with little consideration of the overarching interactions between people, process and technology.

Facility Management (FM) : Life Cycle Costing (LCC)

The construction industry has become much more involved in dealing with whole life cycle issues which have become the dominant feature of facilities management. The impacts of facilities management are strong signs of today’s trend in construction. Four (4) key areas in FM below will be given priority as a for collaborative research initiative between industry and research institutes:
1. Procurement Strategy
2. Performance Measurement
3. Human Capacity and Capability Building
4. Leveraging ICT
